Jackie Malton is a UK-based television script consultant and former senior police officer. Born in 1951, she made history as one of the first openly gay women to rise through the ranks of the Metropolitan Police Service. Malton’s remarkable career spanned multiple areas, including the Flying Squad, Murder Squad, and Fraud Squad.
Malton is perhaps most famous for being the inspiration behind the iconic character DCI Jane Tennison in Lynda La Plante’s Prime Suspect drama series. Her experiences as a woman detective in a male-dominated establishment, combined with her bravery in speaking out against police corruption in the 1980s, made her a compelling figure for La Plante’s character.
