Stuart Hale is a former sniper who lost his leg during a mine strike incident in Kajaki, Helmand Province on the 6th September 2006 – the “Day of Days”, during which several others were wounded and one solider was killed – Mark Wright, posthumously awarded the George Cross. In 2008, Stuart became the first amputee to return to the front line in Afghanistan.

Kim Hughes, GC is a British Army bomb disposal expert and Warrant Officer Class 1 who was awarded the George Cross as a staff sergeant for gallant acts carried out in the Afghanistan conflict. Hughes made safe 119 improvised explosive devices during one of his tours in Afghanistan.

Jody Mitic is a Canadian former politician, an author, and a retired Master Sniper. While serving with the Canadian Army, Mitic lost both of his legs in a landmine incident while fighting in the War in Afghanistan in 2007. He served as an Ottawa City Councillor, representing Innes Ward in Ottawa’s east end, from 2014 until 2018.
